body
BACKGROUND:
The City's roadway infrastructure has aged and requires rehabilitation. The City adopted a four (4) phase Comprehensive Street Improvement Program in 2015 to be spread over the course of several years based on funding. The City has successfully completed Phase I of the Comprehensive Street Improvement Program. The Comprehensive Street Improvement Program Phase II (CSI PH II) design was completed in Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) and construction was approved by the City Commission in FY20 pending funding. Funding through the Mobility Advancement Program (funded by the Transportation Surtax) for the construction of the CSI PH II was approved by Broward County (County) in 2021 through an Interlocal Agreement (ILA).
DISCUSSION:
The CSI PH II project consists of the rehabilitation of City-owned local roadways and sidewalks located between Sample Road and Coconut Creek Parkway and between State Road 7 (US 441) and Florida's Turnpike.
Following ILA approval and the contractor's bid award of the CSI PH II project, the City requested consideration for a construction cost escalation inflation adjustment of 11.9%, which was the maximum allowed by the County. The County reviewed and approved the City's request for additional surtax funding not to exceed $357,000, or 11.9% of the original cost, for a total of $3,357,000. The County requested that this increase be reflected in an amendment, which will be paid as a reimbursement.
