BACKGROUND:

The Solid Waste Services Assessment Ordinance (Ordinance No. 2000-28) provides for an annual assessment against single-family residences for solid waste collection and disposal services, facilities, and programs.

DISCUSSION:

This resolution sets the solid waste services assessment rate for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023, as $329.70; imposes the assessment against certain properties within the City of Coconut Creek; and approves the assessment roll provided by the Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office. This represents an approximate four percent (4%) increase from the current annual rate of $317.04 and includes cleaning and sanitizing of the solid waste bin twice per year, the Household Hazardous Waste Program, and Recycling Drop-off Centers.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The solid waste assessment will generate approximately $2,719,330 in net revenues, of which $2,194,770 is passed through to Republic Services. The City will retain approximately $361,260 in solid waste franchise fees (Account 01-V32370), $39,590 for the Household Hazardous Waste Program, and $123,710 for the Recycling Drop-off Centers and other solid waste programs (Account 01-V32520).
