AGENDA ITEM REPORT

TITLE:

title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SHARING AGREEMENT WITH THE BROWARD SHERIFF’S OFFICE (BSO) FOR SHARING CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION.

body

BACKGROUND:

The Coconut Creek Police Department (CCPD) and the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) are criminal justice agencies recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). The City has an ongoing agreement with BSO for criminal justice information sharing. BSO executed a renewal of their existing Criminal Justice Information Sharing (CJIS) agreement with the FDLE, which now requires BSO to renew the agreement with their existing participating agencies.

DISCUSSION:

The CCPD maintains records through an electronic management system, which creates and stores offense reports. Entering into this interagency agreement will provide for such criminal justice information records to be electronically shared between the parties, to provide for the efficient administration of criminal justice. Either party may terminate this agreement upon 30 days written notice; however, because the City is a subrecipient to BSO, they may terminate immediately and without notice upon finding that the CCPD has violated the terms of the agreement.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
