A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO WAIVE THE ENGINEERING PERMIT FEES FOR THE CITY OF MARGATE FOR PHASE 1A OF THE MARGATE WATER MAIN IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT LOCATED IN THE SOUTH CREEK AREA, SOUTH OF COCONUT CREEK PARKWAY AND EAST OF LYONS ROAD.

body
BACKGROUND:
The City of Margate is planning to replace approximately 10,000+ linear feet of water main for the Water Main Improvements Phase 1A Project, which is located in the South Creek area, south of Coconut Creek Parkway and east of Lyons Road. The existing water main was originally constructed with asbestos cement pipe that had pressure and leakage problems, which have caused disruptions and inconvenience to Coconut Creek residents. The City of Margate is proposing to replace the existing asbestos cement pipe with new ductile iron pipe, which will improve the level of service and enhance the health and safety of the residents. The City of Margate has prioritized the construction of this phase based on the City of Coconut Creek's request that all underground improvements to the South Creek area be completed prior to the start of the resurfacing project (Comprehensive Roadway Improvement project Phase IV).
DISCUSSION:
The project total roadway restoration cost will be $573,019.00, and the permit fees will be in the amount of $45,841.52. The City of Margate has requested the waiver of said permit fees to help with the cost of the project, which will significantly improve utilities public service to the residents of the South Creek area. The Utilities and Engineering staff recommends Phase 1A waiver of the Engineering permit fees for permit # 22001201 in an effort to complete the potable water system improvements project prior to the resurfacing project and to help improve the level of service and enhance the health and safety of Coconut Creek's residents.

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
