BACKGROUND:
Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. As the City of Coconut Creek strives to cultivate an inclusive environment where every member of our community feels valued and respected, at least 80% of its personnel in the Parks and Recreation, Fire Rescue, and Police Departments have completed in-person Autism Awareness training. In recognition of this accomplishment, the Autism Society of Florida has designated the City of Coconut Creek as an “Autism Friendly Community.”
